INTERVIEWS
Our interviewees this week are both working women with children in school. One has stayed in law but works flexibly. The other has left law and works on her own business during the day while her children are out.
WITHIN LAW feature: Helen Hart trained at Allen & Overy before embarking on a couple of in-house roles. After being made redundant in 2005, she returned to private practice for a few years, before moving to be an editor in the commercial team at Practical Law Company (PLC). She leaves early two days a week so that she can do the school run, and works from home one day a week. You can read about her here.
OUT OF LAW feature: Aruna Khanzada practised as a criminal barrister for twelve years before leaving law in 1996 to raise her children. Two years ago she began to dabble in digital photography and took on some commissions. She is now building up a business based around publishing books for her customers through the online self-publishing website “Blurb”. She has published her own recipe book and is now giving cooking lessons too. We spoke to her about her various enterprises, which she runs under the umbrella of “Open and Shut Ltd” while her children are at school. You can read about her here.
MTL BLOG
You can read the latest installment of our MTL BLOG (TO LEAVE LAW OR NOT TO LEAVE: WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS?), here. Our anonymous City lawyer is considering his/her legal career and the alternatives to it... You can contact the author with your comments by emailing mtlblogger@moretolaw.com. You can read an introduction to the blog here.
MTL ART
An ex-City lawyer who has left law (for the moment anyway) and is currently enjoying a well-earned break, has started painting in his new spare time. You can see his work here. We are hoping to interview him at some point in the future as he's been doing some interesting things in his time off!
